COVID-19 test kit distribution service for asymptomatic testing

Dispensing GP practices are now able to distribute Lateral Flow Device (LFD) test kits to registered patients. This is designed to allow asymptomatic people to collect LFD test kits, free of charge, for home testing.

This service commences today at our dispensing practices, both Port Ellen Surgery and the Rhinns Medical Centre.

Patients do not need to call the practice in advance to request a kit - just turn up and you will receive a kit containing seven tests.

Instructions on how to use the test and report your results are inside the box. Information including a video of how to use the test is also available on NHS Inform.

The tests help identify people who are positive for COVID-19 but do not have symptoms.

People with COVID symptoms should not use the LFD test, instead they should self-isolate and book a PCR test – by continuing to call the request line on 01496 305 308.

A negative result does not guarantee someone does not have COVID-19. It is important to continue following Scottish Government guidelines and restrictions.
