Ileach Update 1st April 2023

First Contact Physiotherapy Practitioner

We are pleased to announce that we have secured a first contact physiotherapy practitioner, who will be working with us in the practice. Currently, this is for one full day a week in person, plus some additional time working remotely. The locations of these clinics may vary based on ferry times and room availability, but the appointments are available for all patients registered with Islay Medical Practice. The first contact physio can see patients with a range of musculoskeletal issues including joint pain, arthritis, back pain, neck pain, sprains and injuries. They will be able to perform a full assessment of the problem and work with you to agree a management plan - this may include imaging such as xray or MRI, a course of exercises (in which case you will be referred to the physios at Islay hospital) and analgesia - the first contact physio will work closely with the GP team should any GP input or prescriptions be required. This is a fantastic service and we are very fortunate to have secured it - please bear this in mind when phoning to book appointments. As usual, our reception team will enquire as to why you need an appointment, so we can direct you to the most appropriate service, be it a GP appointment, the practice nurse or advanced nurse practitioner, pharmacist and now the advanced physio practitioner too. If you have any questions about this service, please contact the practice directly.

Public holidays

Please note the surgeries will be closed on Good Friday and Easter Monday, with medical cover provided by NHS24, A&E in case of emergency and an on-call GP as usual. The practices will not close for the holiday on Monday, 1st May - all sites will be open as usual.
