GP Referrals

If a GP has referred you to hospital the referral letter will be typed and sent within 1 week.  The Scottish Government has established an 18 week referral to treatment standard, whereby 90% of planned/elective patients should commence treatment within 18 weeks of referral.  In addition, no patient should wait longer than 12 weeks for a new outpatient appointment at a consultant-led clinic*.  If you do not receive an appointment within this time frame please let us know.  Please note that the Practice does not receive notification of patients’ hospital appointments.  If you are unable to attend your hospital appointment please contact the hospital directly to reschedule it – a list of hospital telephone numbers can be found at the back of this leaflet.

*Further information on national standards and waiting times can be found at www.scotland.gov.uk/Topics/Statistics/Browse/Health/TrendWaitingTimes and www.isdscotland.org
