Repeat prescriptions

You can order medication on a repeat prescription on a monthly basis without having to consult a GP.  However you will need to see the GP at least once per year for a medication review, the Practice will contact you to arrange this.  The reception and dispensary staff can only issue 1 month’s supply of medication at a time.  If you require more than this, e.g. because you are travelling abroad, your request will have to be authorized by a GP.

Repeat prescriptions can be ordered by handing in a request to Reception, phoning the Practice on 01496 302103 or by sending an email to  You will be issued with a re-order slip every time you collect a repeat prescription.  It is helpful if you can use this when ordering repeat medication as it ensures that the correct medication is ordered.  Either hand in the re-order slip to reception or use it as a checklist when phoning / emailing the Practice.  Please allow 2 working days between ordering your repeat prescription and collecting your medication from the surgery.  Please note that prescriptions of Controlled Drugs (drugs that require a signature on the prescription when you collect them) can only be collected from the Practice between 9am and 12noon.

Your prescription may not always be available within this time frame, e.g. if there is a delay in the Practice receiving stock of a particular medication.  In this instance we will inform you as soon as the medication is available, alternatively you can collect the prescription and take it to Islay Pharmacy (we will establish whether they have the medication in stock first).

Please try to avoid waiting until your repeat prescription has run out or almost run out before you re-order it as dealing with urgent requests disrupts the smooth running of the Practice and increases the potential for errors.  We will always try to accommodate you if there is a genuine reason for the urgent prescription request, e.g. leaving the island at short notice, but please try to give us sufficient notice whenever possible.
